For women, motherhood can feel like the end of an old identity. For broodmares, motherhood often marks the end of the spotlight altogether.
The Strong Like a Mother Project exists to challenge that narrative.
Because motherhood isn't the end of the story. It's the beginning of a new chapter.
THE STORY
Two Mothers.
One New Beginning.
In October 2025, I became a mother to twins. At the same time, I began wondering about another kind of mother: the broodmare.
These mares spend years giving life to future athletes, only to be overlooked when their role as mothers is complete.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized how similar our stories can be. Both women and broodmares are often celebrated for what they produce. Less often for who they can become.
The Strong Like a Mother Project follows my return to riding, fitness, and competition while documenting the journey of a retired broodmare stepping into a new purpose beyond motherhood.
Together, we're exploring what comes next and developing the case study of what happens when you give a mare (& her rider) a village.
